Researchers have compared the effect of physical impairment to social impairment caused by osteoarthritis. You may be surprised to learn that physical limitations were not linked with increased depression, but social consequences were linked to increased depression.

Having osteoarthritis may truly interfere with your ability to participate in activities and social encounters. Do you find you are less dependable because of osteoarthritis? Can your friends still count on seeing you, or count on you to help them? Or, are there days you want to hide from them? Has osteoarthritis changed your dependability?
