Does Smoking Increase or Decrease the Risk of Osteoarthritis?
Smoking has been associated with an increased risk of osteoarthritis as well as having a negative impact on health in general. Interestingly, some studies found smoking to have a protective effect against osteoarthritis.
With the well-known health hazards related to nicotine, it would be impossible to recommend smoking, even if more studies pointed to a protective effect on osteoarthritis.
