The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Cymbalta (duloxetine hydrochloride) on November 4, 2010 for the treatment of chronic musculoskeletal pain, including osteoarthritis and chronic low back pain. You may have heard of Cymbalta before now. The drug was first approved and used to treat major depressive disorder in 2004. It was also approved for the treatment of diabetic peripheral neuropathy in 2004. In 2007, generalized anxiety disorder and maintenance treatment for major depression were added as indications. In 2008, Cymbalta was approved for fibromyalgia.
To assess the effectiveness of Cymbalta for osteoarthritis and chronic low back pain, the FDA considered the results of four double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trials. Results showed that patients taking Cymbalta had "significantly greater pain reduction" than those taking placebo. While there are possible serious side effects associated with Cymbalta, reportedly they have occurred in less than 1% of treated patients.
The approval of Cymbalta for chronic musculoskeletal pain gives patients another treatment option. Discuss Cymbalta with your doctor and understand how to take it safely.

Does Cymbalta have sexual side effects? I am currently taking Effexor ER 450 mg & Zoloft 50 mg every AM. The Zoloft has made me impotent. I am just wondering if any guys have noticed this issue while on Cymbalta. The MD gave me a script for Viagra 100 mg but each tablet costs $15.00 and not covered by my health insurance. They say Viagra is a lifestyle drug hence not necessary. I remind you that sensuality & sexual activity are important parts of good health. I tried the herbs for impotency but they don’t work. I am unable to stay erect & therefore unable to have an orgasm. Last one that I remember was April 2009!
The sexual side effects of Cymbalta seem to be fairly mild compared to older generic anti depressants that I’ve tried. I am able to get an erection as well as achieve orgasm. But it does take longer to reach orgasm. The extent of sexual side effects you expereince will probably depend on your dose. I’m on 30 mg once daily. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the info
